We’ve planted in Culpeper, south of our Front Royal yard. We deliver and plant big trees for homes and farms in and around town.
How we plant a big tree
Every tree planting job in Culpeper starts with a call to Virginia 811. Then we dig with a compact excavator. It makes a hole 2 to 3 times wider than the root ball and sets a heavy ball in place without dragging it. The root flare sits at ground level, not buried.
Mulch goes on 2 to 4 inches deep over the root area, pulled back from the trunk. Think donut, not volcano. We water every tree in, hand you a watering plan, and back it with a one-year limited warranty (ask us for the details). More on our tree installation page.
Make one trip count
Culpeper is toward the outer edge of where we usually work, so delivery is part of the price. If you’re planting several trees, or a whole privacy screen, doing them in one trip keeps that cost down. Send us photos and rough measurements, and we’ll plan the whole job at once.
Your first year
Water slowly, with the hose on a trickle, and give the tree 2 to 3 gallons per inch of trunk each time. For the first two weeks, double the schedule. After that, go by the weather: every 10 days with highs in the 60s, once a week in the 70s, twice in the 80s, three times in the 90s, and every two weeks in winter when it’s above freezing. Skip fertilizer the first year.
Fall and early spring are the easiest times to plant. Summer plantings work, but they need closer watering for the first few weeks. The full schedule is on our aftercare page.
